The Gallery Clean-up Project will focus on literally cleaning up the category tree in several ways. This first part of this project, is all behind the scenes. Over the years there have been categories that have been "removed", merged, or changed and there are back-end changes that need to be done to fully remove them from the tree. This part will not affect you, and if everything goes properly, you won't even notice it

There is nothing much to say, really! I'm a deviant just like any other.
Actually I work in photography; but also I enjoy drawing, so when I decided to learn it, a jump into deviantArt was my next logical step!
I've known dA since 2000, but I decided to make this dedicated acc for drawing last year.
2) When did you first discover dAmn, and can you remember the first room you ever chatted in?
I remember I was searching for a room to share art and to get suggestions, but there wasn't one.
You see, I like comics and love drawing in general, so I asked for some advice in this field.

Basking in the glory of finally getting recognised for your hard efforts and photographic skill is pretty awesome and at the start of this week I took the opportunity to enjoy *Fuzzypiggy's after he got published in a UK Photography Magazine. It's really nice when something like that happens and the knowledge that across the country - and because of deviantART and other networks - across the world, people are looking at your work. And if you're me, smiling! I once stumbled across *lauren-rabbit's work in Black and White Photography Magazine and was truly proud that somebody I had found here on deviantART was here in my mag! So have you been published? Has your work received any recognition that makes you proud? What are your tips to getting out there and having your work showcased?

deviantART Birthday #devart Hunt 2012!Well, it's early August again, and you all know what that means! It's time for the most epic celebration on the planet: deviantART's birthday! This year is no exception, and what's a dA birthday without an image hunt?
The rules are pretty simple. Below, there are two lists: One containing a small fragment of a deviation, and one of a list of deviants in a number of various different galleries across dA. What you need to do is figure out what deviation the fragments belong to, and by extension, what deviant.

Spirit Day 2012"Ultimately, I want Spirit Day to make just one person feel little bit better about his or herself, to feel safe enough in their own skin and to be proud of who they are" - Brittany McMillan
In memory of the young LGBT people who lost their lives to suicide, Brittany encouraged her friends to wear purple on a day in October -- a day that came to be known as Spirit Day. Since then, GLAAD has helped turn Spirit Day into a global event that inspires millions of individuals, celebrities, TV personalities, media outlets, companies and schools to wear purple in a stand against bullying.
While Spirit Day does focus on the LGBT community, I believe that it's anti-bullying message is relevant to every community. It only get's better, if we take the pledge to make it so.
Practice compassion and understanding, and treat others how you would like to be treated and we can make a difference.

Seniority Announcement - June 2012

This article marks the latest announcements detailing the latest additions to the dizzy height of Senior members in our community. With just over 900 deviants holding the highly saught after ` -- it's clearly a moment that deserves recognition.

So what does it take to become a Senior? That's a question many have asked and have never really been able to get a straight answer on. Some have gained Seniority as a thank you for their time spent as a Volunteer, or to recognise their contribution to a particular project or collaborative action. Recently, I announced changes to Daily Deviations in this journal and I'm happy to say that the response has been favorable. To review, we have made the following changes:
a> The "3-month rule" is now the "6-month rule" meaning an artist cannot receive another DD if they have had one in the last 6 months.
b> Daily Deviation selectors are limited to a maximum of one selection per day. This has been put in place to focus on quality vs quantity.
The hard-coding of these new guidelines is now in place (special thanks to $ZombieCoder for that

The Stars of dAr is a series where I interview one member of the deviantART Related (dAr) community each time, about personal and dA related matters. For today we have ^Katara-Alchemist! She is an enthusiastic community member, particularly when it comes to site improvements. She's created great visual suggestions, is often found giving her thoughts in the suggestions forum, and her enthusiasm giving feedback on the weekly Site Updates at #hq even earned her an invitation to apply for a job at dA. But enough about her from me - I'll hand the floor to Kat herself

Hi ^Katara-Alchemist, thanks for joining me for this interview

- Please tell us something about yourself!
My name is Kat, I'm 18 and currently living in Colorado where I was born and raised. I dabble in all kinds of art, but digital painting is my main medium.

- Some people may be reading this article and going " hey, I recognize them! But what from?". Can you refresh their mind - how have they most likely seen you before?
I hang out in a lot of places around dA, especially the forums. Lately I've been spending a lot of time hunting through the comments on the official site updates to help people out and talk with them about their ideas.

- How did you get into suggestions and dA related?
I don't remember, actually.

I'm pretty sure the first visual suggestion I ever made was this one: [link] was later revised into this one: [link] I can't recall if I ever really did anything with dA related before that other then possibly a few suggestions in the forums.

- What is your favourite part of dA? And how do you think it could be improved?
Oooooo, this one is hard. I love pretty much all of dA. The main things I think could be improved though are some aspects of Sta.sh and groups. Sta.sh needs an option to queue submissions and the writer needs some work to make it more lit friendly rather then being geared more towards journals. Group backrooms need some re-thinking so they aren't so confusing, there's just so many options that it can be hard if not impossible for people to get their group working the way they want, especially if they're new or just not good with those types of things. Approved group submissions also need a queue system to prevent inbox flooding when a group admin goes in and approves a huge group of submissions.

- Do you have any specific goals on dA?
At this point, either become a CV or to actually move out to Hollywood and work with them as an actual employee.

- Is there any group, chatroom, event etc. that you'd like to promote and make the readers aware of?
Hmmm... #colorado is a pretty cool group, there's a lot of amazing photography from my state there that people should really check out.

- What is your favourite part of the dA related category, that you haven't tried creating yourself yet? And what are your favourite deviations in this category?
Scripts are definently my favorite part of the dA related category that I haven't made anything in. I don't know anything about that kind of thing though, so don't expect any from me any time soon.

As for my faves, it's probably these ones:

- What is your favourite deviation from your own gallery, and how about your favourites?
From my own gallery? Probably this one:

because it's my most complex piece and I'm really happy with the fact that I managed to make all the guys recognizable. I also got a wonderful letter and some awesome stickers from the middle guy's mom when I mailed her a print of the painting.
From my favorites, it's probably this one right now:

- What can you say to help or inspire people who may feel motivated reading this?
Make a goal for yourself and stick to it. Even if things don't seem like they're going to work out, keep trying for what you want. Don't spend so much time worrying about things that you don't get the chance to do the things you love. (That's all I got, and it's mostly a product of spending a week in Europe with a few people who worry way too much...

)
