Hi `Mirz123, thanks for agreeing to be interviewed
By day I'm a mom who works as a secretary. By night, I don a cape and create emoticons, stamps, and write Lit. Though, looking at my gallery stats, I'm most-known for my stamps.
- Some people may be reading this article and going " hey, I recognise them! But what from? ". Can you refresh their mind - how have they most likely seen you before?
I do a lot of emotes and I think people recognize me mostly for those, particularly my emoticon PLZ accounts, which tend to get used quite a bit around the site.
- How did you get into stamps and dA related?
As a webmaster, I have always loved the idea of having graphics to use to decorate webpages. I was very much into pixel-graphics for that, before joining dA. For me, stamps were a great way to brighten up your profile page, but also express who you are. Since I was already creating emoticon signs to do that, stamps was a very natural next step. What I didn't count on is how much fun I would have making them, and how popular my stamps would become.
As for dA related in general, pretty much the same thing. I love having the ability to customize your page and use the various resources to make your dA experience better.
- What is your favourite part of dA? And how do you think it could be improved?
Oh goodness. I don't want to give an "all of it" answer, though that would be my answer. If forced to choose: journal skins and CSS. I love the fact that you can customize the look of your page dramatically through journal skins, custom boxes, and gallery CSS. They helps give your visitors a better idea of who you are at a glance. As for how it can be improved, I can't really say. There are so many great resources available. My only suggestion would be to somehow help deviants easily locate them. I constantly get asked, "how can I do this or that?" There are many great guides out there, but not a lot of easy ways for people to find them.
- Do you have any specific goals on dA?
Very bluntly, to keep making and promoting my art. I am a member of dA for the social aspect, but I am also very serious about my art. Even my emoticons. I love giving people free resources to help make their online experience better, and am always excited when I see my work used both on-site and off-site. I also want to gain a larger audience for the Lit I create through my `mirz-alt account. Writing was my first art-form and the one dearest to me, and it pours over into all of my other arts, including stamps. I tend to write niche genres, but my goal is to help more people find my Lit and get a few more new fans.
Well, since this is dA related, I will announce that #Emoticon-Stamps has now re-opened. The Group closed a year ago due to some issues I was experiencing. It's open again, now. It exclusively features stamps which contain one or more emoticons. It's a great group and I hope it grows again into something big.
Personally, I'll mention my chatroom #PizzaPixels. We run hosted chats, but mostly it's just a place to hang-out and have fun. No pressures and we try to keep the fun relatively clean.
I'll also shamelessly plug my #RelativityComic group, which I run with `Ravenswd. It's a superhero lit series, but it's not your typical comicbook heroes. Most of our die-hard fans do NOT consider them comicbook people, so I guess that tells you something about the broader appeal of the series. I'm always appreciative when someone checks it out.
- What is your favourite part of the dA related category, that you haven't tried creating yourself yet? And what are your favourite deviations in this category?
Scripting. I simply cannot code to save my life (which is why I'm very glad I married a codemonkey and don't have to worry about it). I kinda hate I have an older computer and can't use a lot of the scripts because of compatibility issues. However, I love SuperdAmn, some of the give-a-llama ones, and even though it's an older script, I adore ThumbTools as it helps me so much when doing my features.
- What is your favourite deviation from your own gallery, and how about your favourites?
Can I cheat and pick 2?
-- Because I wanted to create this piece for years and was psyched when I reached a level of skill I could pull it off.
-- This quote literally pulled me and my family through one of the hardest times of our lives. It put things in perspective and saw us through to a time when things *were* all right. I created the stamp to inspire others and I am continually touched by how many people find hope in it and the positive feedback I've received.
As for my favorites...
-- This is a picture my daughter *RandomyPurple took of my youngest daughter, Violet. Admittedly, part of it is the family connection, but there is something so sweet and sad about this photo. I love the capture and the emotion is conveys.
- What can you say to help or inspire people who may feel motivated reading this?
Just the other day, someone asked me, "how do you get noticed on dA?" My short answer is -- "keep creating art." Most of the people who gained any level of notariety simply did what they wanted to, because they loved it, and eventually people noticed. It's easy to get discouraged, but if you keep doing what you love, you'll find it self-rewarding and that's an attractive quality to others. Also, participate in the community. Comment, promote others, and simply *do*. It makes a big difference.
