So you want to be a CV...Sometimes I like to wander through the #communityrelations group, and I always come across comments from people so willing to become volunteers, (and a lot of comments from `phoenixleo ._.) specifically in the The Community Relations Team journal, where the opening positions are listed.
To those people: take this journal just as a personal opinion coming from a former volunteer, who currently is just a regular deviant (as in: non-admin of any sort) like you, from someone who, like you, love the community and is willing to contribute and give back the way he can:

Daily Deviations UpdateHappy Monday Morning

I started this morning by signing something "Moonbam13" so either this typo means I need more coffee, or this week is going to be BAMTASTIC!

I wanted to post a quick update on changes to Daily Deviations. It is important to note that these changes have not been hard-coded so my team is manually following these new guidelines. This means that errors can and likely will occur until the coding is complete, your patience and understanding is appreciated

The following guideline changes are in effect:

The 3-month rule is now the 6-month rule, meaning that it must be at least 6-months since the last time an artist received a daily deviation. (This was an overwhelmingly popular suggestion from the community and I agree, it's a good one!)

Daily deviation selectors may only select one daily deviation per day maximum. This has been put in place to focus on Quality vs Quantity.

It's because there are so many out there, that to promote each time I come across one would be ongoing forevermore. However there is one particular cause that I would like to direct your attentions to today.
A friend from my college days is cycling unaided from Lands End to John o' Groats in June of this year. That's basically from the bottom of the UK, to the top. He's doing it for a very special charity based here in the UK called Naomi House. And why? Because in 2008 his newborn niece unfortunately died - but Naomi House were there to make her last few days as comfortable as possible. Naomi House provides respite to sick children with life limiting illnesses - and their families. It keeps a family together until the last possible moment.
I urge you today, not to donate. It would be nice if you can, but that's not entirely why I am writing about this. But I urge you more than anything else to spread the

Seniority Announcement - December 2011This article marks the latest announcements detailing the latest additions to the dizzy height of Senior members in our community. With just over 800 deviants holding the highly saught after ` -- it's clearly a moment that deserves recognition.

So what does it take to become a Senior? That's a question many have asked and have never really been able to get a straight answer on. Some have gained Seniority as a thank you for their time spent as a Volunteer, or to recognise their contribution to a particular project or collaborative action. Some have gained Seniority because of their community spirit, providing help and assistance to many other deviants and taking time out to promote the work of others in the community.

A Simple Breakdown of the Journal Portal and Categories

(...but it has a tl;dr just in case.)

This tutorial was written as a resource for everyone to use, feel free to save it somewhere, bookmark, pass on the word etc. I aim to educate

My Journal or the Journal Portal?

When submitting the journal, the options look like this:

My Journal: determines whether it's shown on the featured section of your journal page (and the Journal widget on your profile) or not. If you untick this, it'll only show up on the browse page - just like in the Featured and Browse section of your Gallery.

The Journal Portal: tick this if you want your journal to be found in the Journal Portal, which can be found by clicking "journals" to the left on dA's front page. This is also required for your journal to get into the dA footer, and the "news" section of your watchers' message centers.

What category do I choose?

I will not go into all the different categories with sub categories of journals, since these are the same as they used to be for news (so nothing changed) and they do not effect the behaviour, only where it can be found (just like in other deviation categories). I'll just point out the basic structure, which is like this:

Personal Journal: this is the category shown when your journal is not submitted to the Journal Portal. That's why this category is not under the main "journals" category and cannot be found on the front page.

Journals / Personal: The default category. The difference with Personal Journal is that this category is part of the Journal Portal. They will still not show in the footer or in the news sections.

The other categories are Art News, Culture, deviantART Inc., and Fun. These are subcategories under the main Journals category (and thus part of the Journal Portal). Only submissions to one of these categories may reach the footer, and will come into the News section of message centers, rather than Journals.
Note! It's important to consider whether your journal really needs to be in one of these News categories; if you're not sure check :faq687:

TL;DR

For the average journal, the default options are fine, but you can untick "Journal Portal" to hide your journal from general browsing. Or if your journal is an important message/announcement to the community, leave it ticked and choose another category than Journals > Personal.

Since the merger of news and journals to a type of deviation, and the introduction of the Journal Portal, there has been quite some confusion over what the different categories mean and do! So here's a simple breakdown of how it currently works (I'll update this if it changes). Feel free to save this and use it as a referance when needed!

Note, though I use the traditional journal page as example, the same options appear when using sta.sh writer. Oh, and there is a tl;dr.
