Organising Projects & Contests
A new stepHi guys! Exciting news for me
Not even a week ago I was contacted by Heidi and Ayame-Kenoshi with an offer - an internship within deviantART's Marketing department! I have accepted and in fact, I have started already, and so far it's great to work for them
I can work from home for up to 20 hours a week. This sounds like a lot next to my full time study Informatics (which in itself doesn't even include or require an internship - but it's paid and great for experience). And it may be much. But I love it, so it's not much different from free time - because if I'm being realistic, I'd otherwise have spent that same time on dA as well. Heck, I was just about to start looking for a job to do next to my volunteer work - enter Perfect Opportunity!
From L0NE-W0lf's gallery:
So you're no longer a volunteer?
Indeed - not at the moment. However the internship is temporar

PE: dA help - in English or Other LanguagesOn a big site like deviantART you're no doubt going to come across something you have a question about or just don't quite understand. There are many channels you can use to find the answers to various types of questions - such as the faq, the welcome tour, the deviantART Tutorials category and the :#help: chatroom. How do you know which to use?
The best point to start with any question or problem related to dA is the official Need Help? thread. It lists all official help channels and what they can be used for. In this article we focus on the +faq - as well as places to find dA information in many other languages! Let's start with English.

Interning at deviantARTHighlights after 6 months
Today, it's exactly 6 months since Heidi and Toby invited me to work with them! I'd like to look back at some of the highlights of this time The tl;dr is that it's been fantastic. ~ namenotrequired
The best parts
I never had to ask for it or apply. I was personally invited the first time, and I was asked to keep it up each time my contract ran out. It's a paid position, and I can work from home (i.e. wherever and whenever suits me), both pretty rare traits of internships.Okay, just kidding. Those are pretty nice, but they weren't really the best parts. The best part is what I get to do and for whom!
So what do I do exactly? Well... Do you hav

1. Thank You!
I'd like to take a moment to issue a very important "THANK YOU" to YOU! The deviantART Community. On the heels of our 12th Birthday, I've looked back at the projects that my team have undertaken and realized that in the last year, especially, the deviantART community has stepped up and helped to make projects like projecteducate and ArtHistoryProject successful. Without your contributions, interest, faves, feedback and participation, projects like these would go no where. I'm looking forward to more community interaction and participation projects and am always open to your feedback regarding projects or endeavors you'd li

1. Miscellaneous vs Other
Over the past few months, we've been diligently working on cleaning up the category tree of old and unused categories. While most of this will go unnoticed by the community, what you will notice is the change from "Miscellaneous" galleries to "Other". The reason for this change is simple. The concept of Miscellaneous leads one to believe that it's a junk drawer category for everything under the sun when the intention was to be an "Other" category for deviations that don't fit well in other sub-categories of the tree. We're also working on u
Chat Event in #CRLiterature: Sunday 30th September Just to remind everyone this starts in an hour!
To celebrate our new hats, neurotype and Nichrysalis, we will be having a chat event in the #CRLiterature Chat room!
Time: 7pm BST (GMT) Check Your Local Time
This event will be threefold:
The first part of the event will be a community "meet and greet" session, similar to the session we had back in July. This will be a chance for you to meet other people in the community and we'll bring up some topics of conversation to discuss and debate- these can be anything related to literature or the deviant literature community! If you like sharing your opinions, this becomes a lot of fun!
The second part will be an opportunity
Everyday we're CV'ingAs a Community Volunteer - I do as much or as little within the community that I feel comfortable doing. We're not pressured to do this and that, we don't even have to give a Daily Deviation every day, we choose how we promote our selected galleries/chats and forums and we're not fixed to any specific rule on how much or how little we do. But I do believe that it's important to share with you just what the community volunteers do and why we do it. More importantly it's so easy to get lost on this site full of many people - and miss out on the awesome that's going on. So I'm going to share with you exactly what the latest awesome is...
Almost every week since October last year the Community Volunteers have been working hard both independently and as part of small teams to bring You Project Educate.
Project Educate is about bringing forward art forms whether they are popular or overlooked and giving
DeviantART'S 12th Birthday Gameshow: Starting soonDeviantART Birthday Gameshow is starting in just FIFTEEN MINUTES!
We're looking for game players to come and join in our deviantART Birthday Event! In just a short while 3wyl and myself are hosting an interpretation of a British game show called Pointless. The idea of the game is that you have to guess the least popular answer to a multiple answers question. You will be awarded points accordingly, those with the most points will win - but you will have used pointless answers to get there!
We'll have pre-judged the least popular and most popular answers by asking a panel of CVs beforehand for their responses. Want an example?
Name a Film Starring Tom Cruise
Okay so Mission Impossible is a really high answer and if you said that one, you'd get lots of points. Which isn't good! If you said Rain Man - you'd possibly be getting less points. But if you said something like Endless Love or Taps, then you'd be hitting on an answer tha
Photography Troubleshooting: The Watermark FAQ"How do I protect my photography and art in general?"
"As Eitvys200 pointed out, at least 1 journal per month makes it to the top of the list and is about stealing art. Sometimes this is something small such as posting a piece to facebook, other times you see hoards of pieces on a website selling wallpapers or something similar. Regardless of how it happens, or where, it can hurt just as much to see your hard work disregarded and especially someone else profiting or taking credit.
Protecting work is a huge deal for some people, and not for others. It depends entirely on your outlook - how you view your work and indeed whether or not there needs to be some constrictions on it due to the content being a child, or family member. But how do we protect our work properly from art theft and wrongful use? The simple answer is you can't provide for every eventuality. Even if you upload your work to a website where right click -> copy is disabled,
Spirit Day 2012"Ultimately, I want Spirit Day to make just one person feel little bit better about his or herself, to feel safe enough in their own skin and to be proud of who they are" - Brittany McMillan
In memory of the young LGBT people who lost their lives to suicide, Brittany encouraged her friends to wear purple on a day in October -- a day that came to be known as Spirit Day. Since then, GLAAD has helped turn Spirit Day into a global event that inspires millions of individuals, celebrities, TV personalities, media outlets, companies and schools to wear purple in a stand against bullying.
While Spirit Day does focus on the LGBT community, I believe that it's anti-bullying message is relevant to every community. It only get's better, if we take the pledge to make it so.
Practice compassion and understanding, and treat others how you would like to be treated and we can make a difference.

REMINDER: December Challenge: Coping MechanismsHello, Arts-and-Health!!
Welcome to your December Challenge!
Your theme for this month is:
"Coping mechanisms" refers to how we cope with illness, whether in positive ways (practicing religion, exercising, writing, hanging out with loved ones, meditating, etc.) or ways that are not so good for us (smoking, etc.). Show us what you personally use to cope with your condition (or if you do not have a health condition, show us what others you know do to cope).
In your artist's comments, please make it clear that you have created your piece for our group. (If we can't tell that it is relevant to coping, we will not accept your piece into the Challenge.) Also, it should be a new deviation (made on or after December 1, 2012).
All media are accepted.
Submit your deviation(s) to the December Challenge - Coping folder in the group's gallery.
You can enter as many times as you wish.
At the end of the month, the group will choose one wi

REMINDER Gallery Makeover Project JournalsGreetings Deviants!
As I have no doubt most of you have heard from Moonbeam13's journal, a lot of the galleries here on DeviantART are having a makeover. This largely consists of merging and getting rid of categories, but please take a read of the original journal for more details.
I am sure a lot of you have seen these gallery makeover journals floating around already, but here is a definitive list of all the journals so far. Please note that not all galleries are on this list, more may be added later. Also some of these links may be updated in future, and we'll be sure to update the link here as neccessary.
Please comment on the appropriate journals for each area if you have an opinion as to how each gallery can be updated. Remember the more opinions the better so share this journal, and lets get as much of the community involved as we can!
Celebrating Diversity #9Often we get lost in habits and do the same thing over and over again, and we forget about all the wonderful options there is out there. Celebrating Diversity is a series of articles that remind us how wide and rich the art world is and of the variety of options available on deviantART.
I have to admit, I'm guilty of not browsing all of the galleries as much as I should. I love the Artisan Crafts world and I often get lost in its galleries and forget about the rest, so this time I went through all of the galleries looking for awesome art for this article, and I discovered forms of art I didn't even know about! It was a fantastic experience and I hope this series of articles will encourage you to do the same.

Poetry enthusiasts and experts wanted! Still a plenty of room for articles if you interested! Please drop a note to CRLiterature ASAP
In the first week of March (4th-10th), we are hosting a week at projecteducate based on poetry forms. During this week, we would like to invite members of the community to come write informative/ educational articles to contribute to this week.

- Art features (i.e. A collection of concrete poetry)
- Famous form poems/poets
- Workshops/ Prompts/ contests based on a form
These are just suggestions!
If you are interested in writing an article, please drop a note entitled "PE Week" to CRLiterature with an outline of what you intend to write. We are planning this in advance; giving you the chance for you to draft an article- which we are more than happy to review prior to
Why you feature stolen work?!?!Lately there seem to have been a few myths flying around in particular with regards to how we as Community Volunteers, give Daily Deviations. Many people seem to think that we sit at our desks in dark little rooms and let out evil laughter whilst we purposefully feature stolen work. The dark rooms and laughter - well I can't say yes or no on that one! But I can promise you it's not our intent to give exposure to people who have stolen work. I recently featured a piece of work that turned out to be stolen. However I went into extensive conversations with the artist before I featured it, and with added metadata and dates, it's difficult to know where to draw the line. I've given people the benefit of the doubt before - and it's worked out nicely as their work has been legitimate. Below are some comments I have seen being thrown around the past few days - and hopefully an attempt to bust the myth.
"I thought at least that you people would check to make sure the work was the
Celebrating Diversity #1Welcome to this new series of Art Features! Even tho most of you are aware of the many many galleries and categories here on dA, I think most of us move in a sort of "comfort zone" between Galleries, Channels or Groups that provide us with a constant flow of new art. And sometimes we forget all the other great artforms, styles and media that are out of our "comfort zone". And today I want to step out of that warm and cuddly place and feature some awesome works from places on dA I don't usually visit!
Since this is the first entry, I thought I should explain it a bit more, so that is why there is more text in this article The topic of celebrating diversity is something that I really want to cherish. I am guilty of not fully
