Jack KirbyJack Kirby was born Jacob Kurtzberg on August 28th, 1917 in the Lower East Side of Manhattan in New York City. He was a comic book artist, writer, and editor; one of the most innovative and influential creators in the history of comics.Growing up poor in New York City, Jacob Kurtzberg entered the newly emerging comics industry in the 1930s. He drew various comics features under different pen names, finally settling on Jack Kirby. In 1940, he and writer-editor Joe Simon created the highly successful superhero character Captain America for Timely Comics, predecessor of Marvel Comics. During the 1940s, Kirby, often collaborating with Simon, created numerous characters for that company and also for the company that would become DC Comics.Kirby eventually found himself at Timely's 1950s incarnation, Atlas Comics, later to be known as Marvel Comics. There, in the 1960s, he and writer-editor Stan Lee co-created many o
People & Portraits Exposed #5 Getting your Emotive on! It's often quite difficult to define emotion in an image. However the Emotive People & Portraits Gallery is all about that. Whether or not you have captured emotion accidentally or on purpose - your work could have a place within the gallery. Emotive puts a lot of thought and emphasis on the emotion captured in a shot which is quite obvious given the name. However it's not all about being able to see a face with extra focus on eyes, mouth and expression. Sometimes you can capture emotively without that focus. So to create your emotive shots, your intention must be to delve into your subjects very soul and pull out the emotion through their posture, their expressions and their stance and surroundings to convey what is usually hidden away carefully.

Not So Traditional Tuesdays #4My plan is to keep the features fresh for me(and you) and maybe open a few eyes to all the different kinds of artwork that is available while browsing the deviantArt galleries. The things that make one piece of art great applies, for the most part, to other genres. A painter can learn how light and shadow fall from photography, photo-manipulators can learn about composition from a great Manga drawing, and literature can give you the inspiration to try something new or take your work to the next step. You may never try all art forms you see! You can however take what you learn from them and incorporate that into your own work. It could be the difference between stagnating and that breakthrough every artist wants to find!**WARNING:Viewing these works of art may cause giddiness, elevated heart rates, and happiness in the pants(which could lead to blindness)! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!** :thumb330
Traditional Tuesdays #41Hi, and welcome to the 41st edition of Traditional Tuesdays. This week, like all of the other weeks, I'll be featuring fifteen works of art from the Traditional Gallery. Any more than that might and you might loss interest or it could cause your monitor to fail in an explosion of awesomeness. I would feel guilty if that were to happen, so I'm keeping it at fifteen! The Traditional gallery is a vast storeroom of work that covers many mediums and genres. I've tried to show a diverse array of artwork, but I don't have room for them all. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!**WARNING:Viewing these works of art may cause giddiness, elevated heart rates, andhappiness in the pants(which could lead to blindness)!
