Everyday we're CV'ingAs a Community Volunteer - I do as much or as little within the community that I feel comfortable doing. We're not pressured to do this and that, we don't even have to give a Daily Deviation every day, we choose how we promote our selected galleries/chats and forums and we're not fixed to any specific rule on how much or how little we do. But I do believe that it's important to share with you just what the community volunteers do and why we do it. Weather Photography has always fascinated me - the weather in general does anyway, but capturing those changes, shifts in atmosphere and so on have always had me in awe. However when browsing the latest news within popular photography early this week I was stunned by an image that NASA had captured of hurricane Isaac as it lurked over the USA. I've been in a hurricane before, but it never felt as organised or precise as this image shows. This shows a smooth beautiful cloud formation. When below it's likely wreaking havoc and destroying lives. It's difficult to match the two together and contemplate them as the same thing. Well we’ve had a fascinating week so far; a week which hopefully has provided some insight not only to the process of DD selection but helped you understand what we look for in DDs as CVs. As we draw to the end of this week, I bring you an article which will whet your Saturday with thoughts that don’t just apply to the DD feature, but something which should be a consideration to everything you submit to dA. I am talking about deviation presentation.
Why is Presentation important?
Art isn’t always about just being “creative”. There are techniques and skills which develop over time which contribute to the quality of the work you produce and alongside this comes a developed understanding of good presentation.
Good presentation could be anything from cropping a photograph, to spell checking your literature. These are common sense things that in the rush of wanting to show off your creativity can sometimes be

Celebrating Diversity #12This edition of Celebrating Diversity I want to focus on two extremes of art: Extremely detailed and realistic works and minimal and abstract art. Both tendencies or trends have their place and time in art and history and are appreciated by many people. Not always does one person like both, but to me personally, art has always been more about feeling, than about complexity. Something simple can touch me emotionally as well as something blasting with details. Art is just as individual as every human being!

It's All About Presentation (Mostly)As more and more people start taking pictures of their nether regions on their iphones or posing myspace style in front of their HTC's - the competitive world of getting a Daily Deviation gets just that much harder...

I kid. But... daily, I am bombarded with awesome suggestions (which I love) and I'm not complaining about. But there has to be a criteria of sorts, that sets an image above the rest. Here are a few things I look for that you might not have noticed before... The first thing I look at when I stumble across an image or view a suggestion from somebody, is how the artist has presented their work to the deviantART Community.

Your image isn't everything. Not anymore. In the past I have given Daily Deviations to pieces with titles that are a combination of random letters and numbers, or that are very obviously still the source file title - or that tends to be just a keyboard mash-up. So what does it take to become a Senior? That's a question many have asked and have never really been able to get a straight answer on. PE DDs: When It's Not Always PositiveWhen DDs Go Awry
Daily Deviations, or “DDs,” are frequently held in very high esteem on deviantART. After all, what artist does not want his or her work displayed for more than 20 million viewers to see and admire? The benefits of receiving a DD feature include increased exposure for your work and a day in the spotlight for you as an artist. Many people therefore view DDs as badges of honor, awards that make them proud and validate the time they spend in our community.
Be careful what you wish for!
Don’t get us wrong-- DDs are wonderful for the purposes listed above. But, they can also bring a lot of drama upon the artist, especially if they are controversial.

Searching for one artist's art

By entering the simple code by:username into the search field on the browse page, you can see all the deviations by that user. Especially with the ability to browse journals, this is a quick and easy way to find a certain journal by a user. Just enter the topic you are looking for and by:username. It is even helpful for finding your own journals again!
You can search for art in certain galleries by entering in:categoryname. You can exclude words from your search by using -keyword. And of course, you can combine them all. An example of a more advanced search would be:

dog in:photography by:fvdsloot -blanket

Suggesting yourself for DD

Not only can you suggest Daily Deviations from other artists, but you can also suggest yourself! It might seem a little daunting and you may feel a little shy, but we welcome -all- suggestions of all kinds, including from yourself.

We are always looking for new talent and may never find it unless you suggest yourself! So don't be shy, choose your best work and send us a note. A great way to get a feel for whether or not your work might fit the criteria of a certain Volunteer for a Daily Deviation is to just take a look at what the Community Volunteer has already featured. You can build a great foundation for suggestions by going off what's already been featured!
