Beginners Tutorial: Buy and Donate Points

Journal Entry: Sun Jan 20, 2013, 12:50 PM
In three simple parts:

A) deviantART Account

1. To buy points you need a deviantART account. Log in to yours or create one as below.

B) Buy Points

1. Go with the mouse over 'Shop' in the top bar and select 'points'.

Screen Shot 2013-01-17 at 15.19.35 by namenotrequired

2. On the Points page, click "+Points" on the amount of points you want.

:note: You can choose a combination of different amounts. Want to buy $45 worth of points? Choose '2,000' once and '800' twice.
:note: If you want to remove something you added, click the grey "-" next to the green "+Points".
:note: You can change the currency in your settings.

3. When you're done, hit the yellow "Checkout" button to go to the checkout page. The first step is to review your order. If everything's ok, hit 'Continue'.

Screen Shot 2013-01-20 at 18.41.01 by namenotrequired

4. Verify payment details. You can pay with Credit Card or Paypal (I personally always use Paypal to use my debit card instead of my credit card). This process depends a bit on your payment choice and details so I won't discuss this or include screenshots - if you need help, see the Ordering Support section of the faq.
:note: Step 3 of the 'checkout' is "Select Shipping Method and Place Your Order". As a virtual good, points don't need to be shipped and you can proceed here right away and finish your order.

C) Donate Points

1. On the page of the person you want to donate points to, such as mineInnocent, click "Give".

Screen Shot 2013-01-20 at 19.15.21 by namenotrequired

2. Choose ":points: Give Points" to get this pop up:

Screen Shot 2013-01-20 at 20.55.43 by namenotrequired

3. Fill in the amount of points to donate and include a message (optional). If it's your first time you may need to enter your password. Also make sure the boxes below are ticked - you can then click "Give" and reach this glorious screen that says you're done! :dummy:

:iconimaginationplz: And you're done! :iconimaginationplz:

Because my brother couldn't figure out how to buy and donate me points... or maybe he didn't try yet... but he said he would give me points so I thought I would show him how. =P And everyone else too of course! :la: I hope this helps some of you :aww: And questions are welcome :)

Great info Thumbs Up  I stumbled upon this via google (browsed the help already and didn't get much...)
I got a question concerning the donation pool, when we set the limit and the limit has reached, can people still donate ?

Thanks, glad to hear it's helpful! And thanks for letting me know how you found it :D

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure! They definitely still can give points the normal way. I'm not sure if they can still give through the donation pool, but I think they can (in fact that's probably why it's called "goal" and not "limit"). If you're worried about yours getting full, though, you can always edit the goal after a while so that it's only half full again :D

You can give them to others, often they're used as prizes for contests and as thank you's and such. You can also buy commissions and prints and other things with them :)

This was quite informative and the visual aid helps any sort of person (other than blind ones who would otherwise need the help of someone else) and you have avoided unnecessary details and kept things to a point. That is commendable and I like the idea of such a deviation! I wish I could add visuals to my Journals as well :hmm:

... my only question is about the "critique button"...

it isn't needed, to be quite honest: you've given a very good tutorial here. Its very well put.

Any more detailing would imply... too many pictures...

Its well presented.
